A private house and services located on a steep slope overlooking the Bazaruto archipelago. The main house is composed of two perpendicular volumes that intersect and overlap: the first is parallel to the bay and has two floors; the perpendicular volume has only one floor and accompanies the slope.

A modern architectural language with simple lines and flat roofs that uses local materials to distinguish between the various volumes, defines this house.

The volume located on the top is finished in local stone, as if it were a single, heavy block with indented or excavated openings. Inside this volume we created a “box” coated in wood bringing comfort and balancing the cold nature of the exterior. The volume at the bottom almost disappears beneath the above-mentioned block for it is light and transparent, with large windows.

The perpendicular volume has a strong presence for it is white, solid and contained and seems as if it intercepts the ground floor social volume supporting the rock block above.

One of the major intentions of the house was to give the interior living areas a preferential view of the sea, taking into account however, excess exposure to sun and thermal comfort. The different areas enjoy comfortable and shaded balconies and porches.

The garden design had an enormous role in the development of this project. A deck was designed that serves as a passage from the main entrance of the house to the pool area and solarium. As the slope descends the deck protrudes and creates a viewing area of the bay and islands. The pool is positioned in a privileged place ending as an infinity pool. An outdoor dining area was created under the balcony that leads to the rooms. This access accompanies the slope and runs along side the white private volume.
