Situated at the International Airport, Natta Cafe was designed as a pioneering project, introducing a new and unexplored concept of “cafeteria” to Maputo. One of the main ideas of the project focused on the creation of alternative spaces, forms and environments that are able to provoke different sensations to users.

To achieve comfortable and cosy environments, we divided the space into smaller areas through continuous white wall elements without breaking the view to the runway. These elements take on multiple roles: benches, high tables, low walls, flower pots etc. Wood flooring was applied to help divide and limit the areas and “L” shaped structures were created to minimize the effect of the high airport ceilings and also as a support for lighting. The decor and choice of lighting had a major role in the creation of the several environments.

The lounge areas were positioned closer to the windows, with a range of sophisticated and comfortable furniture in more sober colours. In contrast, the areas dedicated to traditional meals contain white tables and colourful chairs and benches. Visitors can enjoy different options of exclusive and private seating areas with a view to the track.
