Situated at Maputo International Airport, Portuscale Restaurant was designed as a leading venue for the city, presenting the new concept of a modern brewery. In keeping with its name and origins, Sketch sought to implement details and materials that are interpretations of the Portuguese culture: terrazzo tiles with traditional geometric and colourful patterns, cork floors and feature wall, stone wainscoting and countertops and the creation of a wall/cellar. These and other elements were used to recreate the spirit and atmosphere of a traditional Portuguese “Cervejaria”.

At the entrance there is a reception area where customers are met and led to their table. From the reception the client can go to the bar, to the restaurant or the lounge, the central and focal point of the space. The dining room presents itself as a quiet, comfortable and sophisticated place, overlooking the airstrip. In the bar area, the individual tall counter bar stools are typical of traditional breweries.

The objective for this pre-existing space is the creation of areas with different uses, separated by screens or walls / shelves that allow visual communication and where passengers and outside visitors can have a drink, relax or have a good meal. The decor and illumination had key roles in creating the various desired environments.
